Night Quotes Section 5-6

Quote 1: "Now you'll really be getting a taste of the camp!" (Wiesel 84).

Description 1: I find this statement to be quite the under statement! The things these people have already had to endure, and go through! Not only with the different camps, but all their families and friends. They have seen each other hung, freeze to death, babies shot and everything else. The fact that they will be getting a true taste of the camp, has to be an under statement. They get under feed, and hardly any clothes. The little sleep they do get, hardly even helps. These people should of never had to go through what they did! These people should of already gotten their taste of a camp, and what they've been through has been more than enough in my opinion.

Quote 2: "My whole will to live was centered in my nails" (Wiesel 100).

Description 2: All that he had to live for, was truly centered in that moment. He had to fight for his life, at age fifteen. He took the meaning of life, in a whole new perspective. He fought to keep his life, all by himself. His nails were his only weapon, to help him. Eli had already seen so much, and fighting for your life, having all that to deal with at such a young age, just isn't fair.

Second Set Of Night Quotes

Quote 1: "You must never loose faith, even when the sword hangs over your head. That's the teaching of our sages..." ( Wiesel 40)
Description 1: To me, this quote means a lot. It says so much not only for times during the holocast, but also for times now a days. That when the going gets tough, you can't just loose faith. If it truly means a lot, to fight with all your might. That everything you've worked for, is always gonna be worth it in the end. Fighting for something, is worth everything.

Quote 2: "Work is liberty." (Wiesel  49)
Description 2:  These three words have a huge meaning. When I look at this quote, I take it as in the context during this time work was a privilege. When you worked, that meant you were wanted and served a purpose! If you didn't work, than it meant you were worthless. Liberty isn't free, just as work wasn't free than. Liberty and work both meant so much to these people.

"Night" Quotes

Quote 1: "There are a thousand and one gates leading into the orchard of mystical truth. Every human being has his own gate. We must never make the mistake of wanting to enter the orchard by any gate but our own. To do this is dangerous for the one who enters and also for those who are already there."-(Weisel 15)

Description 1: In my opinion, I find that he's not truly talking about an actual gate. He's talking about their journey in life in general. That you should just worry about your life, see where that takes you, not worry about what anyone else does or says. Especially in a time like this, during the Holocost. Its every person for their own!

Quote 2: "She must be very thirsty, poor thing! That's why she keeps talking about a fire devouring her!"-(weisel 34)

Description 2: They didn't literally mean that she was thirsty, it was a figure of speech. From what I can tell, they were trying to say that she was craving attention, that something over than that was really on her mind but she couldn't find the words to get it out, so she explained what she thought she saw! That's why she had mentioned about a fire devouring her, because it literally wasn't! Something else inside was personally attacking her, and she needed to get it out.
